Narraguagus 62

The schooner  (foreground) before purchased by the current owner.

The Narraguagus, a 62 foot two-masted centerboard schooner, was designed by Charles D Mower in 1925 for a prominent Philadelphia judge.  The boat was built in 1926 by a boatyard in Bay Head City, New Jersey.
During a re-fit in 1974, the centerboard was removed, and a cold molded shell was built around the original hull planking.
The current owner has repaired the cold molded shell and removed the interior.
Moose Island Design has been retained to re-design the framing and floors which were in bad condition as well as recommend keel repairs.  MID will also completely re-design the interior per the current owners requirements to be able to sleep 6 passengers and three crewmembers. The rig will also be re-worked and slightly updated as well as increasing the keel depth to improve her sailing characteristics.  MID also redesigned the sheer line of the hull to give her a more pleasing line.

In order to be able to re-design the interior and determine the stability, MID measured the hull as it sat on its stands to create this lines drawing. The measurements were entered into the 'Rhino' modeling program. We then created this 2 dimensional drawing that  allows us to study the boat and complete our work. (The original drawings were lost in a boatyard fire years ago and copies that existed have been lost.)

Computer renderings of the hull with the new sheer line.

Notice the aft portion of the sheer line is raised from its original height.
