Edward Scott - Designer
Ed has had an interest in boats since his first ride in a rowboat with his family in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. His next boating experience was at age 8 when he and his best friend spent the summer rowing all over a local creek in a plastic, 6' rowboat. His interest in boats grew to include not only recreational boats but also workboats and fishing boats. His favorite was and still is the harbor Tug. He also has an interest in submarines and sailing craft from the 19th century and older. Even with his interest in all things maritime, he went to school to learn electronics technology and worked in the aviation and marine electronics field. He decided to go into engineering where he spent fifteen years as a product design engineer and engineering manager working on computer based control systems. He became interested in business computer system design where he could apply his systems engineering skills to designing computer system networks for companies converting from older mainframe systems to the newer network systems.

Somewhere along the way he rekindled his interest in boats and studied all the books he could buy on yacht design. While surfing the web looking for a particular type of software class, he came across the web site for The Westlawn School of Yacht Design. Remembering seeing the ad years before in boating magazines he decided this was the time to do what he should have done years before. After much thought he enrolled with Westlawn and also started refreshing his manual drafting skills. He took classes in Computer Aided Design, marine surveying and outboard engine repair. After much discussion with his wife they decided to move to Maine where he was able to work with a yacht designer Tom MacNaughton in Eastport. He worked with the designer for three years before venturing out on his own. Ed says, "You can learn a lot about yacht design from books alone if you're smart, but working for an accomplished professional as I did is priceless."  Ed and his wife liked Eastport so much they decided to stay.

When not designing boats Ed can be found plying the waters of Downeast Maine and the Canadian Maritimes with his wife in their 21 foot power cruiser.

Ed brings not only vessel design experience, but also project management and marine electrical/electronic/computer system expertise to the  team at Moose Island Design. He is also a member of the 'Society of Boat and Yacht Designers' and the 'Amateur Yacht Research Society'.
