Puffin is a very versatile design.  She is a capable coastal cruiser with excellent range.  A 35 to 55 hp engine easily pushes her along at a cruising speed of 6 to 7 knots while burning only three quarters of a gallon of fuel per hour.  With her roomy interior she would also be a very good "house" boat for lake and river use.  Optional electric power for Puffin would be ideal.  She is capable of carrying a large bank of batteries.  The large hardtop would support solar panels which, in conjunction with batteries, would handle most daily needs.  A generator backup, either portable or permanently mounted, could be set up in a sound-proofed area under the front cockpit to allow for extensive cruising if desired. Her layout is designed for relaxed and easy living.  The large aft cockpit can easily be enclosed with screens or curtains for privacy.  As one enters the wheelhouse from the aft cockpit, the galley area is to starboard with a slightly smaller area for storage and icebox to port.  One step up on the port side, there is a large L-shaped settee with table which could be converted to sleep two.  The helm station is on the starboard side.  From here, one would merely walk through a door at the front of the wheelhouse to go forward.  This arrangement eliminates the need for side decks thus increasing the size of the wheelhouse substantially. In front of the wheelhouse there is a cockpit that seats four.  Here, one could extend the steering shaft and mount a second removable steering wheel to allow steering from the front cockpit on those perfect summer days.  The forward cabin has two large bunks and an enclosed head.
